Hedgehog Cake Ingredients
- 2 x Woolworths chocolate mud cake
- Homemade American buttercream
- Fondant: light pink, black and white
- Skewers
- Star piping tip
- Cake board
How To Make Your Own Hedgehog Cake
- Grab your cake board and stack the two Woolworths chocolate cakes with buttercream inbetween the layers.
- Insert three skewers for stability.
- Now, grab a knife and slice the bottom of the cake to make a flat base. Now you can stand the cake up on this base and crumbcoat all the edges.
- Pop cake in fridge to set.
- Divide your buttercream mixture into three bowls. Colour one light beige, the next medium beige and some dark brown.
- Bring the cake out of the fridge and over completely with the light beige buttercream. Pop in fridge to set.
7. In the meantime, lay out some baking paper and dip a knife into your medium beige buttercream. Wipe onto the baking paper and shape into nose/face (almost a big heart shape). Also pip some ears. Pop in freezer for 10 minutes.
8. Use a large star piping tip using all 3 colours together in the bag to pipe the hedgehog. Pop the ears on first and then have fun piping, starting at the top near the ears, then making your way around the back.
9. Attach the ‘face’ by inserting a skewer in to the nose and to the cake.
10. Roll out pink fondant for cheeks. Roll out black fondant and cut out two circles for eyes, along with a love heart nose. Roll some small white fondant balls for the eyes.
Note: the flowers were made with buttercream a few weeks in advance following YouTube tutorials and then frozen. These were placed them around and on top by attaching with a bit of buttercream.
And there you have it. The most adorable little hedgehog cake!
