There’s something extra special about celebrating your little one’s first birthday. It’s an important milestone for them (their first year of life), but also an important milestone for you as parent – surviving that first year and all the huge changes that come with it. Well done! And what better way to celebrate than with a gorgeous one cake, that spells out their age beautifully.
Let’s face it, your baby isn’t going to remember their first birthday… but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate. It’s creating memories for them to look back on over the years. A great talking point! If you’re looking for something lowkey, then have a go a creating your very own birthday cake. Check out this one cake put together by Monique. Here’s what you need…
Materials:
- Large rectangle cake board: you can buy one here
- 2 x round white chocolate mud cakes
- 1 x sponge cake
- Buttercream
For decorating…
- Meringue kisses
- Strawberries
- Macaroons
- Musk sticks
- White chocolate squares
- Marshmallows
- Love heart lollies
Creating your ONE cake
Now’s the time to get cutting!
The O and the E are made from the white chocolate mudcakes.
Simply scrape off the icing and cut them in half (to create a top and bottom) and then cut into the shape you need. Pipe some buttercream into the middle section and again on top.
The N is made from a square sponge cake. Again, cut in half before cutting out the letter.
Decorating your cake
When it comes to decorating this cake, you have the freedom to do what you like! Monique has chosen to use meringue kisses, pink musk, strawberries, white chocolate squares and macaroons. She went for a pink theme but you could do whatever you wanted really.
It’s as simple as that!
You can even add flowers, edible glitter, or any lollies you like.
