Sylvia’s 60th Soiree

My darling mum and I were supposed to be in Paris for her milestone 60th birthday celebration. Due to COVID-19 that was not able to happen. She was understandably devastated about missing the trip of a lifetime. So my brother, sister-in-law, husband and myself thought we would bring Paris to her instead with this gorgeous 60th soiree.

60th Soiree Decor

Awnings were made by my sister-in-law using cardboard and fabric from Spotlight, we then used mirrors from Ikea to mimic windows.

Underneath we used heavy duty double sided tape to attach window boxes from Bunnings and filled with red polyanthus flowers also from Bunnings.

The cardboard chandeliers and large, gold Eiffel Tower were from Party Savers at their store in Chatswood, NSW.  You can also find a large Eiffel Tower wall decal here.

For tableware we were fortunate to borrow damask cloths, crockery and French Laguiole cutlery from a friend. The small glass jars were a $2 store find and filled with in season jonquils. Large white candles were placed at intervals on white plates,  atop of a runner of black, flecked tulle from Spotlight. Napkin rings were made from lace ribbon  also from Spotlight. Table place cards were mini blackboards from Kmart Australia. As were the other blackboard signs and bunting. We also used party lights from Kmart to create the number 60.

Here’s our own guide to finding the best party decor.

Planning the Food

We looked into having the event catered, however it worked out much more expensive. So my sister-in-law and I catered a full 5 course French feast. Combining ingredients from France Gourmet and local delis and supermarkets. The spectacular Opera Cake was made to order from French Patisserie, La Renaissance in The Rocks, Sydney.

The 60th soiree came together incredibly and was truly C’est Magnifique!
