Do you have someone in your life who is simply obsessed with McDonalds? While a ‘cake’ burger won’t quite taste the same as their favourite meal, it’s the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion – and it looks great, too! Here’s how you can recreate your very own DIY McDonalds Burger Cake.
Ingredients
- Queen Ready Roll Icing
- 2 x Cole vanilla sponge cake
- 1 x Coles mud cake
- Seasame seeds
- Mcdonalds products: wrapper, takeaway bag, fries packet, empty cup (you can go into your local store to source these)
- French Fries chips
- Homemade buttercream – with green dye
- Sugar water: see recipe here
DIY McDonalds Burger Cake: Method
Step 1
Start with the fondant the day before to give them pieces plenty of time to dry to go on the burger!
Roll out the red and yellow and start making tomato and cheese. Simple triangles for the cheese, and add a little rolled fondant to make lines on the tomato. Replicate the look in the photo above for this DIY McDonalds Burger Cake.
Step 2
For the lettuce, grab the green fondant. Use a fork to make some lines to create the lettuce look. Leave them to dry on top of some straws to help create that 3D look for the burger.
Step 3
Arrange your first Coles vanilla sponge cake on a Mcdonald’s burger wrapper. Use this as your cake board!
Make some homemade buttercream and dye it with some green food colouring. Pop it in a piping bag and pipe onto one of the Coles vanilla sponge cakes. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can simply use a knife.
Step 4
Now to add the lettuce! Once the pieces have dried overnight on the straws you can arrange them around the outside of the burger. This is all that will be seen, so stick to the outside so it creates the look of the lettuce spilling out of the edges.
Step 5
Your coles mud cake will now become the meat patty (delicious!). Once this has been put in place you can arrange the cheese and tomatoes.
Again, remember that nothing will be seen in the middle. Stick to the edges of your DIY McDonalds Burger Cake and let the cheese and tomato pieces overhang on top of your ‘meat patty’.
Step 6
Voila! Check out this amazing, layered burger. Top it off with the second Vanilla sponge cake.
Step 7
Finally, using the chopping board as your cake board, add the drink, takeaway bag and fries to complete the meal. Add a packet (or two) or French Fries (the chips!) into the fries container and you’re almost there!
Step 8
Finally, top off the burger with some sesame seeds. And you’re done!
