Mum Felicity Frankish shares her daughter Cassie’s 5th birthday with us. Turning five is a big deal, so we couldn’t let the occasion pass unnoticed. Instead of throwing a big party, we decided to have a few friends over for a tea party. It was a blast!

Set up
The set up was really easy. We didn’t want to go all out for just a few friends, but still wanted to make it nice and special.
- There was a Frozen backdrop just from Ebay. The flowers around it and on the table were saved from her first birthday party – you never know when they might come in handy again! They were also from eBay.
- The table cloth was from Kmart, along with the pink glitter table runner. You can also get one here.
- The tea cups were bought off Gumtree for my baby shower a few years ago. They came as a bundle of mismatching cups. They also sell lots of these in local op shops.
The Food
This was where we had a little fun, putting together lots of yummies the kids would love.- The tea cup biscuits were my favourite. We have done these for a few different parties now. You can see our DIY here.
- The marshmallows are from Kmart.
- Fairy bread.
- Lollies.
- Cake!
- We also had some hot food, including meat pies, sausage rolls and quiches that were just store bought from Coles.
Cake
What’s a party without some cake! I asked Cassie a good few weeks before her party what sort of cake she wanted. She was adamant it had to be an artist cake. Cassie just loves drawing, so I wanted to get her involved with the making of the cake.

All those little pictures you see around the cake were painted by Cassie and her younger sister Vivi. I rolled out some fondant and mixed some food gels with water and let them paint away. They had a blast! We them framed each one with some more fondant.
To make the cake, I drew an outline on a piece of paper, cut it out and them popped it on the cake and used a knife to cut around. It was fair easy! Then I layered with fondant and ta-da.
Just for a bit more fun, we also let the kids colour all over the cake at the party. Each one got a paint brush and off they went. The kids loved this part!
Gift Bags
Of course, no party is complete without lolly bags! We grabbed everything from Kmart. They have a party section dedicated to this. I let Cassie go through a pick and few different things and we made the bags together.
